FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What health documentation does my pet need for domestic travel?
While specific requirements vary by airline and destination state, most domestic travel within the USA requires a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), commonly known as a health certificate. This must typically be issued by a USDA-accredited veterinarian within 10 days of your travel date. We will coordinate with you to ensure your pet is up-to-date on all necessary vaccinations—specifically rabies for dogs and cats—and that all paperwork meets current 2026 airline and state regulations.
What about pet comfort?
We prioritize your pet’s comfort with expert care and safe transport from start to finish. For in-cabin travel, your pet remains in a climate-controlled environment at all times, never leaving the side of their dedicated travel nanny. We use airline-approved, soft-sided carriers with plush bedding, provide regular calming touch or treats, and monitor their well-being every step of the way to ensure a peaceful, stress-free journey.
CAN I USE MY OWN VET FOR THE HEALTH DOCUMENTATION?
Absolutely! You are welcome to use your own veterinarian, provided they are USDA-accredited to issue a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI). When scheduling, please keep these three things in mind:
The 10-Day Window: Most airlines require the health exam to be completed within 10 days of travel.
Accreditation: Confirm your vet is licensed to sign interstate travel documents (not all vets are).
Species Expertise: If you are moving a rabbit or small pet, ensure your vet is comfortable certifying "exotic" species for flight.
Ensure PetCare is not responsible for submissions or errors made by your vet or the USDA. Additional costs and/or delays may apply as a result.
What safety protocols are in place if an emergency or flight delay occurs?
Your pet’s safety is our absolute priority. Our travel nannies are trained to handle unexpected situations, such as flight delays or cancellations. Because we travel in-cabin, your pet is never left alone in a cargo hold or warehouse. In the event of a delay, we have the flexibility to provide extra care, food, and water in a climate-controlled environment. We also maintain a digital copy of your pet’s medical records and have protocols to locate the nearest 24-hour emergency vet at our departure, connection, and arrival cities.
Will I receive updates on my pet during their journey?
To ensure the best flight times and availability for in-cabin space—which is strictly limited by airlines—we recommend starting this process 30 to 45 days before your move.
The Booking Timeline
Initial Consultation: We review your travel dates and pet's requirements.
Verification: We confirm airline availability for your specific pet species (dogs, cats, or rabbits).
The Booking: Once confirmed, we secure the flight immediately to lock in the "pet spot" in the cabin.
Final Review: We cross-check the flight times with your vet appointment window to ensure your health certificate is valid for the exact arrival time.
Pro-Tip: Because airlines only allow a small number of pets per flight, "Ensure Pet Travel Agent" prioritizes early booking to avoid your pet being "bumped" to a later flight.
How do I book a move with the Ensure Pet Travel Agent team?
Our booking process is designed to be as simple as our travel. It starts with a customized quote based on your pet’s species, size, and destination. Once you’re ready to proceed, we develop a tailored relocation plan that manages everything from airline reservations to ground transport logistics. We recommend starting the process at least 30 to 45 days before your move to ensure we can secure preferred flight times and complete all necessary health checks without a rush.

WHEN WILL YOU BOOK THE FLIGHT(S) FOR MY PET'S?
Yes! We know that being apart from your pet can be stressful, so we provide real-time updates throughout the entire relocation process. You will receive photos and text check-ins at key milestones, such as successful TSA clearing, boarding the aircraft, and landing safely. Think of us as your pet’s personal paparazzi—we make sure you’re part of the journey every step of the way until they are safely back in your arms.
Can I sedate my pet before the flight?
No, we strongly advise against—and most airlines actually prohibit—sedating pets for travel.
While it might seem like a good way to keep your pet calm, sedation can be dangerous during a flight. Because high altitudes affect a pet’s respiratory and cardiovascular systems, a sedated animal may struggle to breathe or regulate their body temperature properly.
Can I use an AirTag to follow my pet’s trip?
Yes, AirTags and similar Bluetooth trackers are considered safe and are officially permitted by the FAA and major airlines for pet travel.
Because they use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and very small lithium coin-cell batteries (CR2032), they do not interfere with aircraft navigation systems. In early 2023, the FAA explicitly clarified that these tracking devices are allowed in both checked luggage and in-cabin.
Where and how do I meet my Travel Nanny for the hand-off?
To keep things simple and stress-free, we typically meet you right at the airport terminal departures level for the hand-off. For the arrival, we meet your pet’s receiver at the arrivals level or baggage claim.
Here is what you can expect during the transition:
The Check-In: Your nanny will meet you approximately 2 hours before the flight. We’ll do a final document check together and ensure your pet is settled comfortably in their carrier.
TSA Screening: Your nanny handles the entire security process. Since pets must be removed from their carriers for TSA, our experienced team knows exactly how to keep dogs, cats, and rabbits calm and secure during this step.
Arrival: Once the flight lands, we head straight to the arrivals area to reunite your pet with you or their designated receiver. No waiting at cargo facilities—just a happy, personal reunion!
